PUBLIC SPEAKING

Public speaking Hills Little Readers

Public Speaking

It is our great honour to have Ms Lilias as the instructor or coach of our Public Speaking course! Lilias is a qualified university lecturer and a two-time competition finalist in Australia New Zealand's National Speech Competition! She is also a multiple scholarship recipient and a member of the ASCA.

Public speaking is a lifelong skill set that is of equal importance to children as it is for adults. One’s capacity to communicate with precision, authenticity, wit and confidence is the most compelling skill there is in unlocking a world of opportunities. Be it in helping one connect with peers, work effectively in teams and take on positions of leadership both in and out of school. With the right guidance and diligent preparation, combined with a focus on developing a spirit of light-heartedness through authentic and natural expression, any child can attain mastery in the art of public speaking.

Our sessions are a compelling way to introduce young people to the building blocks of effective communication.

Here are several ways in which young children can benefit from such a program:

Confidence Building:

Public speaking programs provide a supportive environment for children to overcome fears and gain confidence in expressing themselves. Through practice and positive feedback, children learn to speak with assurance and poise, both in formal presentations and everyday interactions.

Effective Communication Skills:

Public speaking programs teach children how to organize their thoughts coherently, articulate ideas clearly, and use appropriate body language and vocal techniques to convey their message effectively. These communication skills are valuable for academic success, social interactions, and future career opportunities.

Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving:

In preparing speeches or presentations, children are encouraged to think critically, analyze information, and develop persuasive arguments. They learn to research topics, evaluate evidence, and present logical conclusions, fostering their ability to think critically and solve problems creatively.

Empathy and Understanding:

Public speaking programs often involve listening to and empathizing with others' perspectives. Through practicing active listening and engaging with diverse viewpoints, children develop empathy, tolerance, and a deeper understanding of different cultures, experiences, and opinions.

Leadership Development:

Public speaking programs offer opportunities for children to take on leadership roles, such as leading discussions, moderating debates, or delivering speeches in front of peers. These experiences help cultivate leadership skills, initiative, and self-confidence, preparing children to be effective leaders in various contexts.

Creative Expression:

Public speaking encourages children to express their creativity and individuality through their speeches and presentations. Whether through storytelling, poetry recitation, or multimedia presentations, children have the opportunity to showcase their unique talents and interests, fostering a sense of self-expression and creativity.

Lifelong Learning and Growth:

The skills and experiences gained from a public speaking program lay the foundation for lifelong learning and personal growth. Whether children pursue further studies, enter the workforce, or engage in civic activities, the confidence, communication skills, and leadership abilities acquired through public speaking will continue to serve them well throughout their lives.

Overall, our speaking program can empower our students with the skills, confidence, and empathy needed to succeed academically, socially, and professionally, while fostering a lifelong love of learning and personal growth.
